The Illinois House of Representatives was formed in 1818. It comprises 118 representatives, elected from individual legislative districts. Each representative is elected to a two year term
with no term limits. The Illinois House of Representatives is the lower house of the Illinois General Assembly, with the State Senate being the upper house.
The primary duties of the Illinois House of Representatives is to pass bills, propose ammendments to the Illinois State Constitution, act on fedearl constitution ammendments and pass the state budget.
The Illinois House of Representatives also has the power to impeach Executive and Judicial officials. The House can also over-ride a gubernatorial veto with a 3/5th majority of the vote.
The overall responsibility of each member is to faithfully serve the people of the district which has elected him/her. This stems from listening to the concerns of district residents, remaining accessible
